Sunloungers allowed during Patong Beach trial period

PHUKET: Though there will be no sunloungers available for rent in the special vendor zones on Patong Beach, beachgoers are allowed to bring their own, Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup confirmed to the Phuket Gazette today.

“Tourists are welcome to bring their own umbrellas, beach mats or sunloungers,” Ms Chalermluck said.

“Or they can rent beach mats or umbrellas from vendors in one of the three special zones recently established.”

Those opting to bring their own beach gear will be able to set up camp anywhere on the beach, as long as they are not inside the Water Sport Activity areas (story here).

“People need to make sure they aren’t sitting in places that will interfere with water sport activities – such as the paths trailers use to bring jet-skis to the water,” Ms Chalermluck said.

“This is just a trial run. Governor Nisit Jansomwong will review everything and see what changes need to be made at a later date.”
