Ya bah seized in raids doubles

PHUKET: The number of ya bah (methamphetamine) pills seized by police between November 1 and 25 is more than double the amount netted during the same period in October, according to the latest statistics released by police. During November, police seized 7,435 ya bah pills, compared with the 3,327 tablets of the drug netted in the previous month. The jump in the number of pills seized is mainly thanks to the seizure of 4,000 ya bah tablets and the arrest of six men in a raid on November 6. Police seized the pills in the course of 124 narcotics raids in which 143 drug-related arrests were made, of which 54 involved ya bah. Meanwhile, gambling remains Phuket’s number-one illegal pastime with 292 arrests being made in 188 raids. Two murders were reported during the period, both of which were solved, with two arrests being made, and three people were arrested for attempted murder. Two out of the three rape cases reported during the period were solved, with two arrests being made. There were also 28 illegal aliens arrested and 13 arrests for assault.
