Phuket ICT Center set for December 5 launch

SAPHAN HIN: As part of a government initiative to promote information and communications technology (ICT) in Thailand, Phuket Municipality and the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA) have teamed up to open the Phuket ICT Center at the Phuket Municipality Youth Center in Saphan Hin.

The ICT Center, slated for a grand opening at 11:09 am on Wednesday, comprises four zones. The 50-square-meter library zone will provide access to books, magazines and other reading materials, in both Thai and English language.

The training zone features one section with 20 computers installed with animation software and a general training area with a focus on language skills.

The net zone comprises 30 computers, all with high-speed Internet access.

The 300sqm activity zone will feature a seminar room where functions and activities for up to 200 persons can be held.

There is also a coffee corner that will serve as a meeting point.

Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwannasuppana said that 10 million baht from SIPA and 15 million baht from the Municipality was spent on the 900-square-meter Phuket ICT Center.

Phuket is one of three provinces where similar ICT projects will be piloted.
