Phuket Govt offices shut down for New Year

PHUKET: All government offices in Phuket will close for five days over the New Year holidays, Phuket Vice Governor Sommai Prijasilpa has confirmed.

“December 27 will be the last day of service for the year for all government officers in Phuket. They will return to work on January 2,” Vice Governor Sommai told the Phuket Gazette yesterday.

Vice Governor Sommai urged tourists visiting the island to exercise caution on the roads over the New Year break.

“I urge visitors to be aware of the condition and types of roads they will be travelling along before setting off to ride a motorbike along them,” she said.

“Phuket has steep hills and dangerous curves that all drivers must be wary of. So if you think the road is too dangerous for you, just take a taxi.”

V/Gov Sommai also urged all boat passengers to wear life jackets.

“Please wear a life jacket at all times. Check weather forecasts day by day and take heed if officials issue warnings about boats putting to sea in bad weather,” she said.

“Moreover, I would like to wish all Phuket Gazette readers a happy new year. I wish you the very best in every aspect of your lives. I wish you good health, that you achieve and receive all that you wish for, and for you to be happy in Phuket.

“Happy New Year 2014,” she blessed.
