Immigration arrests drop substantially

PHUKET: The number of people arrested for illegal immigration dropped by more than half between October and November, police statistics show. Figures from November 1 to 25 show 95 people being arrested for illegal immigration, compared with 239 in the comparable period in October. Narcotics arrests and incidents remained about the same with 68 cases reported, and 93 arrests. This number included 23 people held in cases involving ya bah (methamphetamine), with 118 ya bah pills seized. In the previous period 81 people were arrested for narcotics offenses, with 35 people being linked to ya bah. There were 102 gambling cases reported, with 198 people arrested. The November figures also showed one unsolved murder case. One case of manslaughter, one attempted murder and two rapes were solved. There were eight assaults reported, with six of them being solved.
