Huge Turnout For Fundraiser

CHALONG: Local residents packed Jimmy’s Lighthouse last night to raise money to help pay for medical expenses incurred by motorbike accident victim Michael Ilijash, an Australian resident of Phuket who died last Tuesday after a valiant fight for his life. Expressing his appreciation to the crowd, the young man’s uncle, Mark Briet, said the event was “a celebration of Michael’s life – one which he lived every day to the fullest.” There were tears and hugs as Briet recalled Michael’s zest for life – a life that was brought to a premature and tragic end. Peter and Janice Ilijash, parents of the 23-year-old accident victim, attended the party and personally thanked those who offered their support during the family’s time of crisis. In addition to the host venue and local musicians donating their services, local businesses provided raffle prizes to help raise funds to cover the victim’s hospitalization costs. Individuals, businesses and organizations also presented cash donations to the fundraiser’s organizers. The total amount raised at last night’s event was not available as this report was filed.
