Deputy PM to lead Xmas Day raids

PHUKET: A Christmas gift to vendors with dodgy goods and iffy advertising or consumer contracts: Deputy PM Korn Dabbaransi will be in Phuket on Christmas Day to inspect companies about which the Consumer Protection Board has received complaints. It was announced today that DPM Korn will arrive in Phuket on December 24 and stay at The Metropole hotel. The announcement followed a meeting on Friday between Vice-Governor Winai Buapradit and Prapit Yodsuwan, Director of the Labels Department of the Consumer Protection Board. K. Prapit said, “On December 24, from 9 am to 5 pm, the Director of the Consumer Protection Board and Phuket officers will pre-inspect the labels on a variety of products, such as tires, batteries, gold artifacts and jewelry. “They will also check advertisements around Phuket town and other places, and contracts for such businesses as rental cars and motorcycles, and mobile phone and electrical equipment suppliers.” From 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on Chistmas Day, officers from the Phuket branch of the Consumer Protection Board will carry out their “real” inspections, looking for infringements of law in labeling, advertisements, and consumer contracts.
