Phuket Lifestyle: Life Home Project preps for World AIDS Day

PHUKET: At the British International School (BIS), CAS students are making Christmas cards for Life Home Project, a Phuket-based charity that cares for mothers and children affected by HIV/ AIDS.

CAS stands for ‘Creativity, Action, Service’ and is an integral part of the school’s IB program as CAS student Visnu Khanijou explained: “We are making the cards to help raise money to help them have a better standard of living and so they can get what they want when they want to.”

The students have also done cross stitching and Christmas tree ornaments for Life Home Project (LHP) to sell as packages for Christmas at the World Aids Day event on December 1 at BIS. Two women from the LHP were at BIS helping the students make the Christmas cards as they have been doing already for 14 weeks.

The cards and ornaments will also be sold by some hotels.

Some of the students will also do a presentation on World Aids day. Prior to the event they will send out a questionnaire with 10 questions about AIDS and HIV to every tutor group in the school.

They will correlate the answers and present the findings at the World Aids day event showing how much or how little students at BIS actually know about AIDS. The presentation will be about aids and the LHP.

Meanwhile the LHP charity is gearing up its annual fundraiser, which this year takes place at the Mövenpick Resort, Karon Beach on December 1 (World AIDS Day).

This year they have organized The LHP Charity Quiz Night, which features a ‘pub style’ quiz along with other activities including rock ‘n’ roll bingo, live auctions and live music.

A splendid buffet dinner is being laid out by Mövenpick and a full bar service is being provided by The Irish Times.

Proceeds go towards the LHP scholarship program and the day care center as well as work training for many of the women at the shelter.

The
Phuket Gazette, PGTV and the ‘Phuket Today’ show are proud to sponsor this event. Tables of up to ten are available and the price is 2,000 baht per head, which includes the quiz, activities, gourmet buffet and limited complimentary drinks.
