Phuket Lifestyle: Charity golf drive to empower rural school

PHUKET: The Phuket Real Estate Association (P-REA) will hold a charity golf tournament on Saturday at the Phuket Country Club in Kathu to raise money to support Koh Mapraw School.

A press conference was held by the P-REA on October 12 at Phuket Country Club where P-REA president Thanusak Phungdet told the gathered media about the objective of the P-REA Charity Golf Tournament 2012′.

“P-REA always does something good in order to give back to society. For example, we have helped support the Koh Mapraw School with some money before. We were surprised to see how that school was neglected. Even though it is located in Phuket province, where every school is fully developed, but this school looks like it is in a completely different world.

“The desks and chairs for students are really old and they don’t have enough electricity to supply the entire school. They have some computers for the students to use, but the electricity they have is not sufficient to work the computers. Therefore, P-REA came up with a plan to help support this school every year,” said Mr Thanusak.

“We plan to hold the P-REA Charity Golf 2012 on November 3, at Phuket Country Club golf course from 11:30am onward. This is a good opportunity for all of our members to join in the activities and raise funds to help support the Koh Mapraw School at the same time. The golf charity will be supported by JD Pools Co Ltd, Auto Express, and The Beach Condominium,” he added.

According to Sukschaensingh Sethi, who heads the golf charity project: “There will be many prizes for the people who enter the competition. One of the biggest prizes is a Honda Brio car for those who manage to get a hole-in-one at the 144-yard, 17th hole. There will also be the ‘best dressed award’ for both males and females.

“We expect 150 golfers to attend. Each person will have to pay 2,500 baht to enter the competition. All of the money we collect from the tickets sold will be given to Koh Mapraw School.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the tournament can contact the P-REA at 086-471-4874.
