Beefing up the classic lazy Phuket beachside Sunday BBQ

PHUKET: To live on a tropical island like Phuket and not to go to the beach? It’s a crime! And yet, busy schedules, early sunsets and impossible heat during the day, all seem like good excuses for not making it there. At times, it feels like we only see the beach in our friends’ Facebook posts. Luckily, Sunday is here to save the day, and at Centara Grand Resort in Karon, it’s a lazy one.

Each time I visit a beach in Phuket, I’m in awe. Despite all the man-made trouble – the bothersome vendors, the ban on sun loungers, the noisy jet-skis – nature prevails. The sunsets are stunning, the water mesmerizingly blue and the sand infinitely white.

Do we really need an excuse to visit?

If you do, then Lazy Sundays at Centara Grand Resort in Karon provides the perfect one. It takes place right on the edge of Karon Beach in the resort’s Beachcomber restaurant. Forget bows and ties – in fact you can even forget your t-shirt. Beachcomber is all about beach-side fun and relaxation. With a few sunbeds, a couple of tables on the edge of the sand and shade provided by spacious umbrellas, it truly is a perfect spot to unwind after a long working week. And during Lazy Sunday dining, it’s even more fun.

First, there’s the food. It’s not another brunch with table after table covered with international fare. Here, the menu is simple and focuses on turning the event into something very lovable – a beach BBQ with delicious beef and pork cuts, freshly grilled burgers and sausages, and of course, grilled seafood.

To accompany these rich delights is a refreshing selection of salads, not to mention a choice of desserts and fresh fruits. All this, coupled with what’s on offer at the bar, makes for a simple and enjoyable Sunday meal. And to round it all off are live tunes provided by a saxophonist and the sounds of Centara’s in-house DJ.

Your ticket to the Lazy Sunday also grants you access to hotel’s pools and mini water park, and there is a perk for your children too: a kid’s club that’s just as fun as the water slides and artificial waterfalls outside.

Come to think of it, beach life is one of the best things about island living. Grab the opportunity, exploit it and go. Why? Because it’s there!

The Lazy Sundays promotion runs every Sunday from 12pm to 4pm and is priced at 790 baht ++. Free for children below 12 years old. For more information please visit centarahotelsresorts.com
